OUR GOAL

@talentEgal visits high-school classes to speak to the college students of tomorrow. At its heart, the association works to stop people putting themselves down and to convince high-school students that further studies, the studies they want to apply for, are indeed possible. Despite an increase in the number of students with disabilities enrolled in college after recent legislation, these students are concentrated at an undergraduate level, and become fewer and farther between as we progress through the college system. Higher education establishments, universities and colleges are responsible for providing all the support and help necessary for students with disabilities to successfully complete their studies: support, teaching help, tutoring, technical aids, making changes to the syllabus and making arrangements for sitting exams.

So @talentEgal help schools and universities think about possible changes they can make in terms of teaching and understanding different disabilities with speeches and workshops designed to raise awareness.

Considering that settling into the world of work properly is not just about your technical skills and knowledge, the association has also developed a range of training sessions as an addition to the school curriculum. Training is regularly provided within our partner companies and looks at what you need to know about working and your personal development. What’s more, @talentEgal gives students personal access to e-learning modules to help them prepare for the world of work, and the rules they’ll need to follow.

Given that the world of work can seem like a strange and distant place for many students – regardless of whether they have a disability or not – @talentEgal works in collaboration with partner companies and their employees. Benefiting from individual and personalized support, students supported by the association have the chance to discuss and be helped in their discovery of the world of work by a mentor working for a partner company. They’re available to talk them through their applications, discuss careers in the world of work and their career plans, but also to expand their network. Students can also be supported on apprenticeships and in practicing a foreign language, and throughout the recruitment process they’ll receive help with writing their resumes, applications and trying out some mock interviews.

We all know that a successful school life and starting a career well are intimately linked to individual aspirations and accomplishments, so the association has developed a partnership with the Center for Youth Information and Documentation (CIDJ) to best help students on their journeys.

Statistics show that students with disabilities have a tendency to head towards – or be led towards – shorter studies. And yet, once they’ve completed a course lasting two or three years, these students can often feel they want to push on with their education. Supported by @talentEgal, they’re able to benefit from sessions with a CIDJ councilor so that they’re able to focus on learning in a way that’s most relevant to their chosen pathway.

CIDJ councilors can also guide students in looking for a place to live and helping with the various financial demands that students with a disability may face.

@talentEgal supports students until they’re hired. And for that to be a success, students need to be properly supported. In that spirit, @talentEgal lets students express their needs and wishes and helps them find internships or jobs in line with what they’re looking for, their educational background and their potential.

The association is committed to supporting companies as well, whenever they need it – this could be about understanding disabilities in general or more specific conditions, but also with activities to raise awareness among their teams before welcoming a new colleague with a disability.

@talentEgal takes part in school events to better inform the next generation of young professionals about disability issues in their future workplaces.
